Your box

You control what is and isn't recorded. You can choose to trust others, but we won't sell slots to sneak recordings in against your stated preferences.

Clarity

We shall make plain what we are doing with your information.

Privacy

To make best use of the network we will use what you think of programmes, with your permission. We are building schemes where we can do this without allowing anyone - including ourselves - from recovering your personal information, or being able to surely know your viewing habits.

Open for extension

Through the plug-in architecture, anyone will be free to extend the system as they see fit. People who do so will be expected to make plain the promises they are making - similar to these, and users can take them on their word, or avoid using a particular plug-in.

Plug-ins are intended to allow people to make changes without needing to wrestle with the entire codebase, although you are free to do that too (see below).

Software Licensing

We have yet to decide on a license for the code in videdot. Rest assured it will be a free, open license which ensures that you have access to the source we use, the rights to change it and redistribute either the original or your modified version.

The remaining questions are about whether we should allow someone to distribute a modified version without making their changes available and how we can best protect the videdot name to ensure that anything someone sees that is called that does satisfy the promises above.
